Frequently asked questions

How do I look up a word?
Turn the first wheel to choose a letter, then turn the second wheel to choose a word. Tap the arrow button to open it. You can also use search to type a word directly.

What are the levels?
The words are grouped into three levels:
– Basic (A1–A2): 1,500 words
– Intermediate (B1–B2): 2,000 words
– Advanced (C1): 1,500 words
When you choose a level, the wheel shows only the words in that level. You can change the level at any time in Settings (top-right corner).

I can’t find a word. Why?
The app includes the 5,000 most common English words. Each word belongs to one level, so the word may be in a different level. Try searching for it, or change your level in Settings.

I can’t hear the pronunciation.
– Turn up your iPhone’s volume.
– Check that your iPhone isn’t connected to a Bluetooth device you aren’t using.
– For a clearer voice, download a higher-quality English (US) voice: go to Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Voices > English, then choose a voice marked “Enhanced” or “Premium”.

Does the app need an internet connection?
No. Everything is inside the app, so it works anywhere, even in airplane mode.

How do I switch between light and dark mode?
Open Settings (top-right corner) and choose Light or Dark.

Is my data collected?

I found a mistake in a definition.
Thank you for telling me! Please email me the word and what looks wrong. I will fix it in a future update.

Sources and licenses
The word list is based on the CEFR-J Wordlist and the Octanove C1/C2 vocabulary profile. Pronunciations are based on the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary. Full credits are in the app under Settings > Sources & licenses.
